What is EMF? EMF is the acronym for "electromagnetic fields". Electrosmog and electromagnetic waves or fields are perturbations caused from sources artificially produced by man, which spread in space, pervading man's habitat. The human body, and all living things like animals and plants are made up of cells which are born, live and reproduce, thanks to a perfect, natural, electro-chemical balance. External interference, affects the biological balance of cells and, consequently, the physical health of human beings. It is very important to understand that EMF is different from EMC or "electromagnetic compatibility", which refers to electromagnetic interferences generated by a product on another product sharing the same electromagnetic environment.

Although EMF emissions are included in the field of electromagnetic compatibility, they differ from the type of risks they convey, which are the "typical risks" provided by the Low Voltage Directive (2006/95/EC): "radiations, toxicity and similar dangers". Some of the harmful effects of electromagnetic fields are irritation of muscles and nerves, shock, burns, insomnia and, in worst cases, even cancer.
